Microsoft finally launches Xbox Wire, the official Xbox news blog

12 years after the launch of Xbox, Microsoft finally decided to launch a new blog for Xbox. Prior to today, we had to rely on Major Nelson and third-party gaming news sites like IGN for getting Xbox related news.

 

The new site, named Xbox Wire (news.xbox,com) is being run by Lisa Gurry, Senior Director of Public Relations for Xbox.

Hotmail officially dead, Microsoft completes Outlook.com upgrade

Microsoft has completed its Hotmail to Outlook.com upgrade. There are now over 400 million active accounts. Outlook.com is getting two new features: SMTP send and improved SkyDrive integration.

  • SMTP send allows Outlook.com accounts to send email directly through another email account's SMTP server.
  • The improved SkyDrive integration now means Outlook.com users can compose emails and select SkyDrive photos and files directly from the cloud storage service.

Microsoft updated Skype app for Windows 8 today with several improvements and bug fixes. The most important change is the addition of a contact blocking feature that allows users not only to block specific contacts, but also to remove and report contact requests as spam. The update also comprises several bug fixes, most of which are meant to improve the overall quality of the calls you make via Skype.
