WindowsBlinds takes up way more resources than StyleXP and StyleXP takes up a lot. The advantage of using the patch is that you don't waste any resources that Windows isn't wasting already. StyleXP does exactly the same thing except that you have a "manager" of skins, icons, wallpapers etc. If you just need skins then Windows has a sufficient "Manager".

Yes you did do something wrong
download the Neowin uxTheme multipatcher, and run it. Click Patch! and it will patch it for you, but windows will give you a little message saying that some protective shit is there and you have to insert your CD blah blah... just click Cancel (otherwise it will overwrite the patch wit hthe original) and restart the computer... all done.

foo_looks only adds a bit of a proper GUI, foo_ui_gfx on the other hand is supposed to replace the whole GUI. Although it's in it's early stages of deveopment there has been two skins made for this comoponent already, one of them being the Winamp Classic skin.
I don't know what this component supports and what you can do with it but this is a skin that I am planning to make
(really early stages - could be called a sketch)

As far as minimalism goes, column_ui is a good way to go. Azrael's strings are pretty damn good.

What a great theme!!! i've tried many themes and but i just kept changing back to Royal... not this time though
nice work!
any recommendations for matching icons? I'd prefer sets (Iconpackager or IconTweaker), since i hate wasting my time on doing it icon by icon
