I think the only possibly useful mouse pad in the day and age where optical mouses have become so cheap and obtainable, is a pad with a wrist rest, and even that is waste of space sometimes, so, no, I don't use one.

Yeaa
I use to sit 10-12 hours daily on computers & Continious work gave a small black patch on my wrist
But
Mouse Pad with wrist cover helped me out & now my hand feels comfortable with mouse pad So from my side mouse pads are good & we should use

I have an opticale mouse, && I still use one.
Don't know why.
Think it's because the grooves in this desk may make it skip, not sure.

Habit I guess.

u should use one, because even tho its optical, it will still get scratched from the surface, even if its smooth.

I use a mousepad, because if I mouse on my desk it makes a grinding sound which I hate... Why don't they make a desk that is 100% mousepad, except a solid place for your monitor(s) and some shelves, with wristguard all around the edges? lol, that would be awesome... until you spilled something on it... another stroke of genius: add cupholders to the keyboard drawer!
