even though Apple computers are less powerful, the os is so good it makes up for it. I don't have too much experience using macs, but i would say they are peobably the best option for design work. Have you thought about waiting till they go intel tho?

iBook, are great for students, write words docs, surf the internet, listen to tunes watch music. For Design you may want to save a bit and get a powerbook little more grunt, but a good iBook will still do the trick, make sure you get the 15" thou, i suspect the 12" will be just to small.but os wise, Tiger is an amazing os, when i switched to mac like a week ago i didn't really know what to expect from the os, except from what i had seen and read on apple.com, but as soon as i booted up and saw how cool, and easy it was to just setup the mac i new that i could never go back to a pc. Overall great laptop, and i think you should get it before the intel macs come out, most people think that the first wave will be buggy

ibook. it's slim design and round edges make it better to transport it without damaging it. (as a student this is verry important for me, only don't have the money to buy 1  )

for power: get a desktop! :P

i definately would agree with the postees that have written before me. the iBook is sleek and stylish, and just the idea of seeing someone with one rather then a dell laptop of any kind is just impressive. very professional image, if you ask me

besides that, i have one and i love it !

Whatever you do, don't buy now. Apple will probably be unveiling new PowerBooks at Macworld 06 in January.

I prefer windows based laptops mainly because of games.
