im pretty sure more people use konfabulator since its easy to use and not hard to customize unlike samurize that takes some novice experience to manipulate. i see good things for konfabulator in this poll

I've only used DesktopX Pro and i've liked it very much...
i've used to make a Vista Sidebar for my windowsxp, but i don't use very often anymore since the sidebar has been ported to xp...

dotWidget!! :)

+ Works fine on Windows 2000
+ No .net requirement
+ Small download (~3MB)
+ Small memory footprint (~10MB)
+ Single process
+ Lots of useful widgets
+ Easily configurable
+ Unique 'gripper' feature
+ Open Source
+ Freeware

No doubt Konfabulator and DesktopX are the best but they are memory hoggers in comparison of AveDesk.

Kapsule user here, tried Konfabulator and was a memory hog, f that, going back to desktopx sooner or later, seems to ease my pc a little more (test pc that is)

Actually, the first widgets were back in the early days of macintosh, i believe. It was a prototype thing that they never follwed through on.

This does not change my opinon of how bad apple is.

Hmm... I like Konfab, recently named the awful name "Yahoo Widget Engine" (at least its free :D ) mostly because a wide source of pre-made widgets are available on their site. The downside is its system resource hog, each widget is in itself its own program, and uses lots of memory.

Avedesk is also my favorite, because it uses much less memory and has an easy to use scripter, AND because it has the ability to easily create shortcuts and use effects on widgets such as glow, bounce, spin, etc.
