Today my mum's laptop wont boot and instead goes to a "Startup repair" screen, where in the logs it says c:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\trufos.sys is corrupt.

Any ideas how to fix it? There's no system restore points and no full system back up to use.

Have you installed BitDefender antivirus? I think a virus tried to corrupt trufos.sys

If you have Windows installation DVD then you can run the Startup Repair which will fix the issue. Then re-install antivirus and scan your PC.

I had installed Bitdefender a few days before.

Managed to fix the problem: Ran a Linux session from a liveUSB and used a file manager to find and delete the corrupted file. It can't be corrupted if it's not there!
