YouTube's mobile apps for Android and iOS is going to add a feature that lets you download videos so you can watch them offline. The downloaded videos will be available for 48 hours.

YouTube's Android app already has a preloading feature for subscriptions and the "watch later" playlist, but this feature has a catch: you need to be online when starting to play a video. This makes the feature less useful.

This is not surprising. Google did the same thing to Apple on iOS with the maps app. Apple wanted to add turn by turn into the app (possibly with siri intergration), but Google wouldn't let them. So Apple decided to make their own maps instead and guess what. Google releases their own app with turn by turn built in. Assholes.
