Pokki, the most popular start-menu replacement for Windows 8 and an app distribution platform will now be pre-installed on all of Lenovo's Windows 8 PCs. SweetLabs, the company behind Pokki also announced that the OEM version of Pokki has added support for distribution of multiple app types as well as 13 languages. Using Pokki, Lenovo customers and Pokki users worldwide can browse, discover, and access free, downloadable apps, including:

  • Traditional PC desktop apps (e.g., Dropbox, Evernote, Skype)
  • Pokki desktop versions of web and social apps (e.g., Facebook, Gmail, Kabam games)
  • unique Pokki apps (e.g., popular Instagram app, Instagrille, and Twitter desktop app, Tweeki)
  • Windows Store Apps (e.g., Cocktail Flow, Netflix, USA Today)

SweetLabs announced a similar partnership deal with Acer in June.

And Lenovo just assured itself a quick death... I can't imagine Microsoft is too happy. This kills core Windows 8 functionality.

If I get one of these PCs my way, it's going straight into the Recycle Bin where all the other shit UIs OEMs have bolted on over the years have gone.

Think not, this is more a problem of preloading "crapware". Mind you Pokki is nice, but preloading makes it crapware :). I thought these PC manufactures would have learn by now.

Good Lenovo

Samsung was first to offer Start screen replacement, now Lenovo, and I think it's high time the other major PC manufacturers do the same, since Microsoft  obviously doesn't care for its PC users at all.

In no way does this beat Stardock's Start8 start menu replacement. Start8 is much better.

Yup. You're right. Since obviously, Microsoft held me hostage, preventing me from using my desktop with Windows 8.

Oh, wait...

It's a good move. If you use Start Screen, uninstall the bloatware! But there are people who want the start menu back and Pokki is one of the best 3rd party start menu.
