I recently started using Outlook.com. The interface and features are really better than Gmail but the service isn't reliable. This whole week the website was giving random errors. Yesterday I couldn't send some important emails.

I checked the status on https://status.live.com/ and this is what I found today.

Is it normal? It looks like the service is still in beta stage.

No, it isn't normal, Microsoft has a good usually has track record for uptime of their online services, not sure what has been happening lately.

The interface and features are really better than Gmail [..]

Better, like when a double right-click menu is displayed in Firefox? One regular, *built-in* one for HTML, and one JavaScript menu added by Micro$oft. Yahoo! has also gone astray with their interface lately. It's not a good trend.

Btw., email (SMTP) protocol is something NOT to be messed with; enhanced, or 'bettered' in any way.. Some people struggle with this concept today. It's a shame.

The status page now claims that Outlook.com is up but some people still can't access their inboxes right now.
Check this thread on Microsoft's Answers site.

That's a shame. I started to like Outlook.com. I guess I'll be using Gmail for a few more months.

who cares, man? It works the same at the end of the day. Lots of sites do that.

Microsoft has posted an apology and an explanation for what happened to Outlook.com. Everything has been fixed except for the mobile sync issues.
