Since today, the preview store has been opened in all the leaked Windows 8.1 builds, there are updates for most built-in apps, and the entire store has been redesigned. Take a look at the store improvements in this video, or try it yourself.

Any one know how the installation works? Can you update your W8 install on the 26th?

Yes you can upgrade to the Windows 8.1 preview but then installing RTM version of Windows 8.1 when it's released will require you to re-install all of your apps both in Metro and in the Desktop.

Upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 will have no hiccups.

Hmm. I guess I'll wait for the RTM then. Don't want to go through the hassle of re-installing everything. I'll just use another computer to try out the preview.

And do what? Restore the kludgy, broken, creaky old start menu? Pffft.

The start menu was never broken. I'll be upgrading my Windows 7 to 8.1 when it hits RTM . Hopefully the gaming performance will improve.

Of course there is? Every service pack (this is what 8.1 is) improves performance across the board. Or at least it is billed to.
