Windows 8 is getting popular amongst PC gamers. Steam users have been ditching Windows 7, XP and Vista and upgrading to Windows 8 since its launch. Windows 8 has now finally overtaken Windows XP in Steam hardware survey. Windows 8 had a combined market share of 9.63 percent in February, while Windows XP market share decreased to 9.33 percent.

With 55.48 percent of share, Windows 7 64-bit remained the number one operating system, followed by the 32-bit version with 13.83 percent.

It's a huge gain in comparison to Net Applications data which shows that Windows 8 market share grows to 2.6 percent in February

That's because Windows 8 can run on 10 year old computer/laptops smoothly and you can download your favorite apps and use them instead of running to your mobile device. In a sense some would say Windows 8 is the initial update from Windows XP. I still like Windows 7 but when Microsoft comes out with Windows Blue I feel Windows 7 is going to take another major hit.

Microsoft is really going out of their way to reward those that updated to Windows 8.

Win8 is good for gamers because it consumes less system resources.

Windows 8's performance is a huge win for gamers. Literally and metaphorically

Gamers are always looking for the latest technology. If Windows 8 would bad, they would still upgrade.

Except that there is no proof of that as they could just be buying new PC's and being pissed off that they're forced to have Windows 8 instead of Windows 7.
