Skulls of the Shogun is the first ever cross-platform game which supports cross-platform multiplayer. The game is available for Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows Phone 8 and the Xbox 360.
It's a turn based strategy game which makes sense. You can't play COD style fast-pased shooter on your phone against PC players. :D

Microsoft tried to implement cross-platform game play between Windows PC and Xbox 360 in 2007 as a part of "Games for Windows - LIVE". The first game was Shadowrun which supported PC vs Xbox 360 multiplayer.

Microsoft itself killed the idea later when they realized that even the best console gamers couldn't compete with the accuracy a mouse and keyboard afforded a PC player.

Ignoring Minecraft now, are we?  It can be playes on XBox, Windows, Linux, Mac, shit, any OS that supports Java and OpenGL.  And that is pretty much modern OS.

Also, my $.02, Windows Phone does not count as a serious gaming platform, if even a serious gaming anything... .. not that iOS nor Apple devices do.  Cant play Morrowind (Example game!) on it? Not a serious gaming platform.

Minecraft is a closs-platform game but Skulls of the Shogun and Hero Academy support cross-platform multiplayer. When the last time I checked you couldn't play Minecraft on PC with your Xbox 360 friends. Does it support now?

There are more than 100 indie games on Steam Greenlight with cross-platform multiplayer support.
