IObit has released the final version of WinMetro to bring Windows 8 Metro UI (Start Screen) to desktop of Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. The program makes your desktop informative and productive by displaying notifications and useful information such as weather, calendar, news, stocks, and frequently used programs in Windows 8 inspired Metro layout.

You may recognize IObit from its various system maintenance utilities like Smart Defrag, Game Booster and Advanced SystemCare. The company also launched StartMenu8 last week, a new start menu application for Windows 8.

Changes in the final version (version 1.0):

  • Added More Language Support
  • Added More Settings
  • Improved Interface
  • Improved "Calendar", "Internet Explorer", "Photos" etc.
  • Fixed General Bugs

Download WinMetro

Tried that too, installed > got hit in the face by 1000 adverts > spent 10 minutes looking for the tiny download link to install new widgets > uninstalled

Granted the widgets look great but I refuse to install adverts on my machine, unobtrusive adverts that were tiny then maybe, but 80% of the app is ads
