You can't get HTC One X like pixel density on a 40" screen.

Basically you need a monitor with high PPI (pixels per inch) which isn't possible on a 40" monitor, unless it's a retina display!

My monitor, do you mean tv? Because they are slightly different. Text on a tv won't look sharp but a monitor will. Also the most common resolution is 1920x1080 which won't look amazingly sharp on a 40" screen. The only reason smartphones look so good is because it has a similar resolution on a ~4.7" screen. Also, generally, a more expensive monitor will have a better picture quality. I know Samsung makes good monitors and some people like ASUS too.

You can find 27" monitors with 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution but there is no 40" screen available with more than 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Google for these monitors for 2560x1440px display:
Dell UltraSharp U2711

Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D

Samsung SyncMaster S27B970

HP ZR2740w

And everyone's favorite:
Apple Thunderbolt Display
