A WinMatrix member posted in other thread that "You have no idea how many people on WinMatrix have disabled the Start Screen."

Now lets see actually how many people here have disabled the Start Screen of Windows 8. Please vote!

Nope. I love the Start Screen. Eloquent and functional. There's no reason to disable it.

Yep, disabled it with Skip Metro Suite. I use the desktop mode only.

Yes. Desktop only mode please.  Visual Studio has no Metro UI IDE yet...

Also, to many of my common apps are desktop only.  If Metro versions of  them show up, ok, i will start using metro when at least half of them are available.

List:

  • Freemake
  • Handbreak
  • MakeMkv
  • Visual Studio
  • Chrome *(Fake Metro Already available)
  • VLC or Media Player Classic - home cinema
  • Minecraft (never going to happen, we know it)
  • Steam (again, never going to happen)

Yup, thats my list.  currently, only one is available.  Get to work Dev's!

I spend most of my time on the desktop mode for exploring files, browsing web and Steam but whenever I want to see the notifications quickly I click on the lower left corner of the display to bring up the Start Screen. It's useful but not that much.

How do you disable the start screen?

You will have to use Skip Metro Suite or StartW8. I prefer StartW8 because it also gives you a start menu.

I used the Skip Metro Suite to boot directky to the desktoip mode but I still use the Start Screen. Who doesn't want to try the new apps and games in the Windows Store? :P

I use start screen, because I am bells-and-whistles developer and I have to digg all Windows aspects to see its potential "hidden" tweaks :D

I skip the Start Screen and immediately go to the desktop whenever I log into Windows. Why disable it? Use it as a widget screen.

I use it to quickly check my emails, to-do list and calendar. I think I'll be using Metro mode more when I'll buy a Windows 8 tablet.

How do you disable the start screen?

You can use a free program called Start8...it pretty much disables all of the Start screen features and you can skip to the desktop at boot. It is $4.99 and well worth it! http://www.stardock....roducts/start8/
