Vote for the antivirus you use. This poll is for free antivirus only. If you use a paid antivirus like Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky or ESET NOD32 then chose the last option in the poll.

Here are the links for the interested people in alphabetic order.

I have chosen only those antivirus softwares for the poll which provide real-time protection. Some good antivirus like 'Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free' and 'Spybot S&D' don't provide real-time scanning in their free versions. They are on-demand virus scanners and it's not recommended to use them as your main antivirus.

I use Unthreat Antivirus (which you haven't mentioned) and I love it. It doesn't jam my computer while scanning and it's easy to use - have you ever heard of it?

Microsoft has killed the antivirus market by providing Windows Defender in Windows 8. You don't need any other AV if you have Windows 8. ;)

I'm a huge fan of Avast because of its low usage of RAM (3 to 7 MB only - idle) and detailed graphs and logs.

Is there a way to kill that annoying voice that tells you the virus database has been updated?

Yes, go to Avast's settings, then "Sounds" and then uncheck "Enable avast! sounds".

I'm posting this again...no one can beat this:

Avira runs only one process avgnt.exe for realtime protection which uses 1 MB of RAM only. Avira Free Antivirus is the best for old laptops.

If RAM isn't an issue then use BitDefender Free Edition, why? Because it is the best antivirus and it's free now! :D

Avira for me because of high detection rate and low RAM consumption. But I use the Internet Security version. The free version of Avira can't protect you from malicious web sites.

I'm using Windows Defender because it comes with Windows 8 and gets the job done. :)
