Avira has launched Avira Free AntiVirus 13, formerly known as Avira's AntiVir Personal, along with its 2013 product range which includes Avira Free Antivirus, Avira Antivirus Premium 2013, Avira Internet Security 2013 and Avira Internet Security Plus.

Free AntiVirus 13 has been optimised to use less RAM and launch more quickly, for instance; it has better defences against malware which might try to close it down; there's built-in protection for the hosts file; scans can now be run at a low priority to avoid slowing down your PC; and the interface has been redesigned to make it easier to use than ever.

Avira uses 1.5 to 2 MB of RAM only when idle. Check this screenshot of Avira's avgnt.exe process on the taskbar.

Wow AV's getting good nowadays. I would personally say MSE, Avast and Avira the top 3 free AV as they all solid for virus detection/prevention, and good on memory use. AVG is near there imo.

Also, Avast only uses about 3.5 mb which is also nothing, when idle.

Avira and Avast both use only 2 to 3 MB of RAM when idle. :)

The interface looks same to. They haven't changed anything.
