The Source-engine based remake of the original Half-Life has finally arrived and is available for free. Black Mesa Source began development in 2004 as a fan-made reworking of the original classic by Valve Software and had been dubbed vaporware many times over the course of its life. Now, anyone with a PC and a copy of the free Source SDK (downloadable from Steam) can play most of the game for free.
The team has reproduced the entire narrative up to Lambda core with new voice acting, animations and all kinds of fun stuff, it’s basically a complete remake, not just a visual one. The team is still working on the "Xen sequences" but you can play the first 80% of the game now!

To bad it needs the SDK (about 1 GB) and then the files for the game itself is 3GB... WTF Programmers.. Ever hear of "optimized code" ? Guess not.
Anyway, enough rage, i hope to d/l it at library on monday (they have 30MB/Sec speeds)
Exactly! Why not put together as one whole download

You do realize that the majority of space taken up by game installs are thanks to textures and sounds, right? Optimized code has nothing to do with it.
Anyways, having a blast with Black Mesa. A challenging blast, but a blast nonetheless.
