I found out what Start Screen is very annoyng thing as well as edge panels at the Classic Desktop.
So I have created a tiny application "Skip Metro Suite" wich allows you:

• To skip Start Screen and boot directly to Desktop
  
• To disable edge panels aka "Switcher" and "Charms Bar"

All of these features can be configured via UI:

It works fast and handles first logon and logoff/logon events.

I'm dual booting Windows 7 and Windows 8 Release Preview and it automatically goes to the desktop after I login. It's probably because I shut down/restarted from the desktop (go to charms > settings > power).

Also, the switcher is actually helpful, I'm not sure why anyone would disable that (and I hate Metro)

hab, Windows 8 Release Preview automatically goes to the desktop ONLY with help of third-party software. Same for RTM.
The switcher is actually helpful only for those who use Metro apps. I am not a Metro apps user.

Great Thingy.
Now Microsoft will slowly realise how cruel they were to force us to use Start Screen all over.
And how big a mistake they made by removing Start Button, the most beloved thing of a Windows User.

Skip Metro Suite 1.1 allows you completely disable all edge panels, not just hide them! All of them will be disabled, including square start button at bottom-left corner!

With version 1.1.1 I have increased switching speed and fixed some bugs. UI was not changed.

• Edge UI panels disappear much more faster (startup folder is not used anymore).
  
• You will able to close Metro apps with mouse drag - this part of Edge UI now will be kept.
  
• Multi-user environment improvements.
  
• Better installer behavior for "update" mode.

It's pretty useful for those who buy a new laptop after 26th of October and don't want to use the modern UI of Windows 8.
