Microsoft has delivered a preview version of its Windows Essentials 2012 suite. It's somewhat stripped down from Windows Live Essentials 2011. The suite includes

Microsoft Mail
Photo Gallery
Movie Maker
SkyDrive
Writer
Messenger

As expected, the bundled apps now don't have Windows Live branding.

Download: Installer | Web Installer
Compatible with Windows 7 and 8

Were the screenshots taken on 8 or are the window borders for messenger like that on 7 too?

That's Windows 8 Release Preview explorer frame... or Windows 7 Custom Theme (Windows 8 RP VS ported to Windows 7)
but based on SkyDrive Explorer screenshot its Windows 8 RP AFAIK...

Those screenshots were taken on Windows 8. Notice how the 'scenic ribbon' actually uses the new flat style in Windows 8. When you install it on Windows 7, the 'scenic ribbon' is still the same.

yes, but SkyDrive doesn't have the feature where you could sync specific folders across computers. While it worked, personally, I found it to be very clunky. I think SkyDrive is a better solution.

Skydrive also doesn't have the RDP feature either.

Skydrive is useless for me until Microsoft releases an app for Android.
