Acer CEO JT Wang told The Financial Times this week that he has asked Microsoft to reconsider competing head-to-head with Acer and its other PC maker partners by releasing the Surface family of Windows-based tablets. And if Microsoft declines, another Acer executive has suggested that the firm seek out alternatives to Windows.

"We have said [to Microsoft] think it over," Wang said. "Think twice. It will create a huge negative impact for the ecosystem and other brands may take a negative reaction. It is not something you are good at, so please think twice."

"If Microsoft … is going to do hardware business, what should we do?" he asked. "Should we still rely on Microsoft, or should we find other alternatives?"

They already abandoned Microsoft when they decided to start making Android tablets anyway.

From my experience, Acer produces one of the most unreliable, fault-prone devices on the market! I do not know of any person that bought any Acer product after what they experienced with their first one.

Acer should leave the Android alone too.

Agreed. Acer products only have one thing going for them... they're cheap. Other than that their products are generally just throw-away models.

I have an Acer laptop for nearly 3 years now and a tablet for nearly a year without any issues. I have nothing bad to say about them and since they are "affordable" doesn't mean they are trash I wish I could say the same about Compaq on the other hand.

As for Microsoft trying their hands at the hardware market I wish them best of luck because they don't really have a good track record of hardware reliability thanks to their xbox systems and I don't think that will stop. Their only answer to faulty hardware is to make another generation that fixes the issue and you have to fork up more money.

Acer's pissed because they have nothing of their own. They can't compete or release good hardware that stands out, as a consequence, they drag everyone down with them.

I remember back when Acer was good, quality, top-notch hardware... What happened to them?
And back to the Article at hand: Sounds like Acer is acting like a spoiled 5 year old...

Acer threatening Microsoft? How is Acer going to survive if they can't sell Windows Laptops? Sell Ubuntu Laptops? :D

I own an Acer laptop for 2 years now and I am very happy with the quality. Not a single problem with it and it was way cheaper than Dell, HP, and Samsung offerings with the same hardware. $450 vs $550+.

Acer needs to keep selling their Android tablets and get on the MS Surface bandwagon too. What do they have to loose?
