Madfinger Games, the creator of SHADOWGUN has made their first-person shooting game Dead Trigger available for free because of high piracy rate.

From their Facebook page:

"Regarding price drop. HERE is our statement. The main reason: piracy rate on Android devices, that was unbelievably high. At first we intend to make this game available for as many people as possible - that's why it was for as little as buck. - It was much less than 8$ for SHADOWGUN but on the other hand we didn't dare to provide it for free, since we hadn't got XP with free-to-play format so far. - However, even for one buck, the piracy rate is soooo giant, that we finally decided to provide DEAD TRIGGER for free. Anyway - DEAD TRIGGER is not FREEMIUM, it always was and still remains FREE-TO-PLAY, that means, all players are able to play it without IAP! We stand up for this statement, because all members of our team are playing (and enjoying) DEAD TRIGGER without IAP."

Dead Trigger for Android

Update: iOS version is now free! Those who purchased the game while it was 99 cents will be given in-game currency 25 gold and ten casino chips in the 1.1.2 update.

" it always was and still remains FREE-TO-PLAY". - i domt get it? They charge you on 1$ in the beginning and then make the game free and said it always was free? Wtf is this bullshit? And how about Apple Store? The game is still at $1 not because of its piracy, im talking about the "always free" thing they said.

Yes, only the Android version is free because there's a verified 5:1 piracy rate, which means that out of six installs only one is done legally according to Miles Jacobson, who made Football Manager game. Google is not taking the necessary steps to limit the damages. There's no working copy protection on Android, so it's pretty easy for someone to get it working.

Android is a successful OS, but not a successful platform.
