Every time Microsoft tried to change something in Windows, the OS failed. The company had to fixed a lot of stuff to make the things right. For example Windows ME was terrible but XP was amazingly good. And Vista was a disaster but Windows 7 was the OS everyone loved. Now again Microsoft is changing everything in their OS with the release of Windows 8...

I didn't try 8 yet, but Vista was far from disaster.I think its funny how lot of people doomed vista before it was out and magiclly everyone praised 7 even way before any beta's.
I think lot of problem people had with Vista is they were running Xp with decent PC but that wasn't enough for Vista.

No, it won't be the new Vista. I don't believe that Windows 8 will be a total failure. I think it won't sell as good as Windows 7 but the reason for that is the saturated market and not Metro itself. Metro isn't loaded with bugs or lacks productivity. People just don't know what to do with it yet. Windows 8 without Metro is in my opinion more efficient than Windows 7. The only problem for most people is Metro.

Let's wait for the release =)

Unlike Vista and ME, even if there is alot to hate about Windows 8, there is still also alot to like about it as well.

I agree that a lot of people won't upgrade to Windows 8 anytime soon but I also believe that when Windows 9 will be released in 2014 everyone will jump straight to the new OS without any hesitation. People don't like changes and want to keep everything like it is.

Ok guys... Lets face it...

Windows 8 Metro style should stay in touch devices not on desktop & notebooks with no touch support.
Windows 8 is awesome. An enhanced version of Windows 7 with added features (exclude metro on that feature) NO two environments.

If this will be the final release I will jump right into it and I will surely buy it.
IF NOT then download just to test and pirate

As much as I like a lot of what is in Windows 8, I don't think the general public will. Most users generally hate change.

People have hard time coping with changes, even more if it's as big as this one. It's been seen from changes to webpage layouts such as Facebook or Twitter but most people either cope with it or find an alternative. I for one find its a good thing for Microsoft, you can't stick to one layout for the rest of the business life even more if you are trying to integrate Xbox, WP and much more into one ecosystem.

Too soon to say.

The transition from 7 to 8 might probably be similar to

either 3.11 to 95 (Win) or XP to Vista (Fail).

Both were completely new introduction of platforms and now 8 is

going to do so. Let's wait and see.

I think it will be a fail because not everyone has touch screen devices and windows 8 seems to be reliant on that just like vista having a demand for more powerful hardware. I think when Windows 9 comes out everyone will have a touchscreen capable desktop / laptop because touchscreens will be the norm by that time.

Windows Me was a bit unstable. Lots of stuff was introduced in ME for first time.
So, I considering it as "Community Technological Preview", not as real os. It was dead at birth because of Neptune->Whistler->Windows XP chain.
Vista was (as is) unusable shit. I am sorry, but this is true.
Windows 8 just has non-desktop look. All other things there are good. It stable. It usable and fast.
THere is no reason for Win8 to become Vista/ME.

Windows 8 is not going to be failure. But Metro on desktop is going to be a failure.

One Does Not...
Posted Image
... Simply disable Metro.

Don't worry somebody is going to find a way to remove metro from win8.

Today, due to some reason I had to visit Windows 7's safe mode and this is when I noticed..

This is where the Microsoft guys would have gotten idea about Metro: Attached File  Metro.jpg   153.18K   58 downloads

See the bars...
ALso If you ever noticed, Windows 7's safe mode is really fast, because there's no aero enabled, only dumb metroish-colours...

I would now love to say that Windows 8 actually evolved from inside of Windows 7 i.e. it's Safe Mode... Posted ImagePosted Image

The whole argument is that Metro is more for tablets (I too am very excited for Surface), but Metro is shit for desktops.

Thus, I hate Windows 8 (for desktops).

You might laugh at it, but you'd be surprised at how many users switch from Aero to Basic/Classic because, well, it looks more basic and thus more professional. Not better, but more professional.

anyway, Aero works even in safe mode in Windows 8. Seriously. Go check it out.

no, people go basic/classic because Aero is a resource hog, and using basic is faster, classic is as fast as it gets.
and i dont care if you argue with me on this, because i know i am right.
