Rainmeter is an open source widget platform which displays customizable skins/widget, like memory, battery power, RSS feeds and weather forecasts, right on your desktop. Many skins are even functional: they can record your notes and to-do lists, launch your favorite applications, and control your media player - all in a clean, unobtrusive interface that you can rearrange and customize to your liking.
Rainmeter 2.3 comes with improved Rainmeter Skin Package system (.rmskin), which will simplify the process of distributing new user-created skins to others. There's a new standalone Rainmeter Skin Packager application from the Manage menu. Rainmeter 2.3 also sees a simplified installer that reduces installation to just a few clicks, despite continuing to support both 32-bit/64-bit builds and portable/normal installations.

They brought seamless installation in the previous version and now the standalone skin packager! Their team is wonderful!

Thanks for the heads up. I prefer Rainmeter's widgets on Windows 7 instead of Windows 8 Metro tiles.
