Microsoft Surface tablet, unveiled this week to compete with Apple iPad, will initially go on sale without a connection to mobile-phone networks, according to Bloomberg.

Microsoft made no mention of cellular connectivity during its Surface press conference or in spec sheets for the device, and most tablets and PCs have traditionally shipped without cellular connectivity on day one. Bloomberg's sources also say the Surface is manufactured by Taiwanese ODM Pegatron.

wifi, while "dated" is more or less everywhere, as how mobile connections (cell) can have issue sin some areas. it's a good call. be safe with what works. mobile data can be added in later on.

why would you want to sign up for another data plan when you can just use your phone's data for your tablet as well?

Exactly. take the ten seconds that it takes to turn on network sharing and save yourself about $50 a month... (price average of Verizon, USA, east coast where i live, 5GB Max data limit. yeah, shitty, i know)

I know that feel, bro. The data caps here are going to be revised to 2-1gb. Absolutely terrible, and an obvious ploy to squeeze more money from the subscribers.
