I read that Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 share same core. What does it actually mean?

  • Will I be able to install apps made for Windows 8 on my Windows Phone?
  • If yes, then only Metro apps or all the Windows programs?

Probably Metro apps , that's why they insist so much on metro in windows 8

"shared core" means Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 now uses the same kernel, the same network stack, and the same drivers, and a few other things.

This doesn't mean Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 can now run the same apps, no, Windows Phone 8 is going to use only a subset of the full WinRT API (Metro apps).

What Microsoft is emphasizing is that Metro apps on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 now can use alot of 'shared code'. Not the exact same app, but 'shared code'.
