Microsoft has unveiled their own Microsoft Windows 8 hardware tablet - that's also a PC. Meet Surface!

Specs:

• 9.3mm.
  
• 1.5 lbs.
  
• Full size USB 2 (USB 3 on Pro).
  
• Beveled edges at 22 degrees.
  
• magnesium case.
  
• PVD finish.
  
• Hi-res, ClearType, 10.6 inch display.
  
• Built-in kickstand.
  
• Built-in stylus.
  
• Gorilla glass.
  
• Magnetic connected cover - that doubles as a keyboard. Available in both touch and tactile variations.
  
• Full Office and desktop support.
  
• Available in both RT and x64 (Surface Pro) versions. Pro is powered by a Core i5 Processor. Both have the same chassis.
  
• Surface Pro has edge venting, you'll never block it with your hands.
  
• Pressure sensitive, Digital Ink support.
  
• "This surface has two digitizers. One for touch, one for digital ink. It sees the proximity of the pen and stops taking hand inputs."

Price will be made close to availability, hopefully Microsoft can be aggressive with it, but we're looking at Ultrabook range for the Pro Surface and iPad like pricing for the RT Surface.

I called it yesterday! Also, GLAD that MS TOOK OVER!

Lets face it, out side of mediocre keyboards and mice, the XBox is Ms's one and only hardware powerhouse hit. Now, if MS has TOTAL control over the hardware, design specs, etc.. and does not allow other Makers (dell, lenovo, etc...) to enter the market, then it may be good.

But it wont be that way. MS = Software. not hardware. Fact is, MS is more or less Recycling the UI from the now-dead Zune to Windows. They must have paid to much for it to be developed for it to have just been tossed out. Hell, MS is going to change the XBox 360's UI AGAIN to make it more like Windows 8, rumor is.

There is nothing keep them from matching or exceeding this design. However, it's quite sad they needed a kick in the pants, after trying to recycle Windows 7 and Android hardware.

However, I am happy to see Microsoft take charge instead of relying on bumbling OEMs to promote their flagship OS.

There is nothing keep them from matching or exceeding this design. However, it's quite sad they needed a kick in the pants, after trying to recycle Windows 7 and Android hardware.

Amazingly enough, I agree. However, i dont think that the other OEMs will beat this design, they may go for the ultra-cheap Ultrabook option tough, steal money form MS that way.

For some reason, I have a hate for tablets, but this might be the first one I even consider looking at and checking out. It seems cool, but of course I'm going to wait for the reviews and problems that are likely to arise in a new product.

No one knows, I think Microsoft is actually doing this themselves, like what they do for the Xbox.

This looks great! Pen input or touch, I prefer pen over touch on a windows based tablet so that's a great feature to have.

I will be picking up the 128GB Windows 8 Pro version when released, Finally something to replace my Acer C210.

Agree. The Intel version should be able to run "legacy" desktop apps IF it is an x86 or 64 bit processor...

It's an i5 so its just a good ol' fashion x86-64 processor

I honestly think the last time i used Ctrl+Alt+Del was... gee, either a few months ago, or more than that.
Win7 is super-stable (ATI drivers, however... giving thought to nVidia now, sheesh...)
