Does it run faster than Windows 7? I mean just everyday loading, booting, CPU/RAM usage etc
I really couldn't care less about the inefficient and useless Metro UI. If I ever get Windows 8 I'll be using it old school Windows mode... and only of it gives me some sort of performance edge over 7.

Win 8 boots within 15 seconds for me but I haven't noticed any performance improvements. We should wait for some benchmarks.

Yes everything is improved including boot up times, and it's more efficient on CPU and ram performance wise because of the fact they got rid of the transparent/blur portion, so less stress on GPU, and obviously over time, MS thinks of stuff to improve the performance.

Tip of the day: if you are looking for a performance boost: keep win7 and buy a SSD: probably cheaper and a lot faster!

PS oh sorry eye pie rate, not cheaper for you off course, but a lot faster anyway

Boot, sleep, and wake up/resume times have all improved. It's pretty wonderful, even Aero on the desktop is faster because Microsoft has toned it down.

Windows 8 also has a updated version of the processor scheduler from Windows 7, so depending on your processor, you might see pretty huge performance gains.

MS said they're removing the blur/transparent portion of aero, so I assumed that would be in the newly released version, but I guess they'll implement that in the next release.

Those are old benchmarks and really aren't too spectacular apart from the boot time.

Yeah, but i'd say the RTM version of Windows 8 is either going to be equivalent or better than those benchmarks. The OS was complete some time ago, Microsoft is working on the apps and focusing on polishing the OS now. Hopefully we'll see some updated benchmarks soon.

Also, just a note, in the context of computers (and technology in general), a small difference in the seconds can make all the difference in day-to-day usage. Those benchmarks don't seem like much, but I can tell you that Windows 8 absolutely flies, it even feels faster than Windows XP (and i'm testing W8 on a Pentium 4 computer). You wouldn't even think it's actually Windows.
