In before my rant, here is the Article:Microsoft reveals Windows 8 desktop changes, drops Aero.

(cross-posted form this thread: Windows explains why Windows 8 is the way it is... )

Why is the Taskbar still Aero, but the borders are not? Thats just shitty.

And if i want a "flat" window style, i will use the "classic" mode and change all of the 3d colors and such to one flat, uniform color.
On the other hand, it has always been know that if you want to speed up windows (WAAY back from the Windows 3.1 days) then you do this.
1 > no wallpaper, eats up refresh cycles drawing it
2 > flat colors. less resources to be used.
And now we add in (from Windows Vista)
3 > disable Aero, use Classic for more speed (amazingly enough, it is true... if your on a lower-end machine, you can notice the difference)
4 > disable desktop icons (less to draw, less resources = faster system)

So yeah, all of these are proven, but it distract and takes away to much from the average users. People Want desktop icons (not me though, i hate them), they want wallpapers (i think we all agree on that one), a majority of us like to use Aero (look at the sheer number of Aero .msstyles files + Windowblinds + borderskin) and colors, we like colors (although i do like "flat" colors, looks minimal to me

So yeah, MS is removing things that we are used to to FORCE Metro on us. Seems like to me when MS went looking for people to ask "how should windows look like" they asked the older generation that complains "fonts are to small" and "i cant see those tiny pictures on the screen that i am supposed to click on".

I propose that we call Window 8 "Windows Geriatric Edition"... because it had to be made for those with bad eyesight in mind.

Although i will say this, back when Vista came out, i said "Aero is a waste of GPU resources" ... Dont believe me? look in the Vista forums, in the early pages. Yup. Ends up that I was right, however, as how i should mentioned, i dont like the Windows default Aero, but i love the modified Aero from several .msstyles files. This is sadly another reason i wont be upgrading to 8. Although to be honest, some hacker will find a way to port the Windows 7 aero-rendering files to Windows 8, and we will have Aero back again.

Either that or Windowblinds will start getting pirated like all hell again (like how it was back in the XP days).

R.I.P. Aero </3 for now at least. I disagree with some of the points that aero looks outdated and so-called cheesy now. Like you said with some of the .msstyles out there it cleans up really nicely, but I think I'm going to be holding off on 8 now unless the non aero ui becomes something special :(

i think (yeah sometimes I do :P)............its bcoz they cannot fit in the ribbon stuff into aero and make it look cool....so they have removed aero......they did not like the default look of Office 2010+ apps on W7 as how it majorly washes out Aero and there remains no point in the small region towards the top that is Aero-ed

I think this is one of the major reasons which gave birth to a whole lot of reasons that led to Aero getting the boot

I think with Metro, Microsoft has stuck a very nice middle ground, even if it's really plain.

Think about it: This is less stupid than the skueomorphism of iOS/OS X and alot more warm and welcoming than cold digitalism of Android ICS.

I dont think its really the same people complaining getting it and also then losing it. Some, maybe but they learned to like it.

I think people bitched about it because aero required a more superior graphics card that supported pixel shader 2.0 and a lot of people had outdated computers that didn't fully support vista so of course there would be a lot to bitch about.

I think in some ways Microsoft got rid of the aero because it was gaining popularity and decided to hand it over to windowsblinds to give them an edge. It was the samething done with the dreamscene in vista and they got rid of it in windows 7 and now you can only get it through stardock products. I wouldn't be surprised after a while they drop the metro stuff and you can only get it through a stardock software.

I'm beginning to see a pattern...

I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure that Stardock has no influence on Microsoft's decisions regarding Windows' UX.

I don't like the way Metro looks these days.

I wanna watch Microsoft's designers work much more harder on their jobs.

I can definitely say that Win 8 will not be as much popular as XP, not even 7 coz 1 main change in the functioning is the absence/hidden nature of Start button which will annoy most of the PC and Laptop users.
We are used to the start button but Microsoft has went off a wrong way by removing it.

Actually you're probably not right, windows 8 is probably going to be way more popular than xp and 7. The ARM edition alone is going to be where most of it's popularity is gained, tablets are so popular now. Maybe a lot of people don't like the start button being removed but the focus is on the metro screen not the desktop. Most people who are anti-8 right now will probably end up using it anyway just like vista.
