Microsoft will provide Windows 8 Pro to buyers of Windows 7-based PCs for just $14.99, according to Paul Thurrott. The promotion begins June 2.

Microsoft has always provided a promotion to PC buyers in the months before a new Windows version hits the street. The reason being that with a new version about to arrive, consumers might otherwise hold off on new PC purchase, scuttling sales for 3 to 6 months.

So if you will buy Windows 7 PC after June 2nd, you will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 for $15 later, right?

Correct. There's of course going to be a cut off date after which they won't provide the $15 update for, but that will be quite a few months out.

Even though $15 is not that much, what's up with MS? It use to be free to upgrade!

Agreed, even though $15 is pretty cheap it's hard to consider it a deal after all after the price you're paying for a new computer added onto the cost.

$15 is blowing me away.

But actually, I would rather run both Win7 and Win8 for software testing purpose instead of

upgrading.

This promotion leaves me unsettle now.

I will never do a upgrade from W7 to W8 as it is now.
A separate install perhaps...
