Symantec has released public betas of it's Norton 2013 security softwares including Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security and Norton 360. All the Norton products now supports Windows 8 Consumer Preview and it's Metro UI.

The interface has been optimized for use on touch systems and new support for hardware acceleration should see the products become a little more responsive.

The new builds also offer small improvements in their various protection technologies. The Insight file reputation database will now see more rapid updates, for instance; Insight has also been incorporated into the firewall to "improve the ability to detect and block malicious network activity"; SONAR is able to monitor the behaviour of your applications, even when you’re running in Safe Mode; and the 2013 range are ready to work with the Windows 8 Early Launch Anti-Malware scheme, which means they'll be launched before other boot drivers and so be better able to protect you against rootkits and other low-level malware.

Norton is just sh*t. NOD32 and MSE are the big deal.

Those are status indicators, not just icons, right?

2004 called.

Norton / Symentec is far from garbage any more. The software used to be bloated and pretty much drove your PC into the ground in terms of speed, not in today's day and age.

Check AV-Comparatives, Symantec / Norton constantly get high marks, surpassing MSE as well. Eset and Symantec are pretty close to one another though (as they have been for the past two years or so now).

Avira also get higher marks, consistently I might add, over MSE.

There is no room for Norton to eat all my RAM anymore.

I have no trust in it.

Windows 8 has build in antivirus so why install this exta crap ??

Just realized Metro will put an end to a (somewhat) unified UI. Every programs tries to invent the wheel, leaving the user guessing.
