Steam client and Source Engine are being ported to Linux finally! Above photo is of Left 4 Dead 2, a Steamworks game based on Source engine, running natively on Linux.... No Wine library or anything else for "fake" support. This is on an Ubuntu 11.10 installation with the AMD Catalyst Linux driver.

Right now the game they have been working on the most for their Linux client is Left 4 Dead 2. Why L4D2? Basically because it is a stable code-base to do for their initial porting. They have plans to bring their other titles to Linux as well as lobby other game developers using Steam and the Source Engine to bring their games to Linux -- natively.

As i said on another Swedish games news site:

This is damn gold if game industry is beginning to take hold of Linux as well. We have in the future Valve to thank for in that case.

This is also a step closer for me to jump over to Linux later, depending on HOW it looks like then.

If this really takes off, I think I might be more and more interested in switching over to linux for my desktop's primary os. This is one of the few things holding me back.
