Ahead of the expected June release of the Office 15 Beta, Microsoft has updated its office productivity suite, offering a more refined look at the rougher Technical Preview it announced in January. This release drops some of the more jarring effects from the Tech Preview, like the weird colored window shadows, while speeding up animations and improving the overall look and feel across the board. Here are some hands-on screenshots from Paul Thurrott:

Too much whitespace but still better than the Windows 8 interface.

Exactly. I've said it a million times- it seems the only UX team at Microsoft that can't get metro on the desktop right is the Windows team. We have the Zune desktop client, which still remains one of my favorite program interfaces to this day, then Office 15, which is a great combination of both interfaces.

Come on, Microsoft. We may be getting closer to Windows 8's release, but you can do better!
