The new iPad looks identical to its predecessor but it does indeed feature the much-rumored Retina display, meaning that the new iPad's screen runs at an astonishing 2048 x 1536, good for 3.1 million pixels.

The new iPad features a slightly evolved version of the processor that was in the iPad 2, called the A5X, and not an next-gen A6 processor as many hoped. But even this processor offers dual-core processing and quad-core graphics, which Apple says is necessary to drive the new device's very high resolution display.

The new iPad features updated cameras, with a 5 megapixel backside unit. It does video recording now, and in 1080p quality.

The new iPad also features a voice dictation feature and, unexpectedly, both 4G LTE and HSPA+ cellular network support, a first for any Apple device.

Price and Availability

The new iPad starts at $500 for 16 GB of storage and Wi-Fi (no cellular data). A 64 GB version with cellular connectivity will cost you $830. The new iPad will ship March 16. Preorders are now available.

Apple you have done it again :)

I love the new iWork and iMovie on my new iPhone. I can't wait to try the new GarageBand when I get a chance to really use it again.

I thought 1920x1080 is a standard HD resolution but Apple loves to go against the rules. Higher resolution is always better though. :)

I just dont understand why other companies wait for Apple to release something so they can beat it. Why dont they release something that is not available

Google and Android are only in the market to be disruptive. So the only competition you're going to get from them are "Hey, look! We can do that too!"

Well, meet the new king. Same as the old king. This seems to be a small upgrade over the previous iPad, and most of it is expected (except for LTE), but yeah, good enough to keep it at the top. I don't think apple is going to go all guns blazing until they see some serious competition (which, right now, is non-existent).

The only thing that I think is even remotely close to matching up to the iPad are Windows 8 tablets - but they aren't even here yet, and the Windows Store still has a long way to go in matching up to the iPad's offering.

Google and Android are only in the market to be disruptive. So the only competition you're going to get from them are "Hey, look! We can do that too!"

Exactly! Google is there to offer choice and openness, but from what we've been seeing, they don't seem to be interested in offering the best user experience. They don't make profits from Android anyway, they give it away for free. If Android wasn't given away for free, I doubt that it would be as popular as it is!
