After extending Windows Vista consumer support to 2017, Microsoft has quietly extended Windows 7 consumer support to 2020.



Don't mistake the support lifecycle for the sales lifecycle, which is a completely separate issue. You cannot buy a retail copy of Windows XP or Vista today, nor can you get either OS installed on a new PC. The sales lifecycle is tied to the release date of a new versions of Windows.
