Microsoft confirmed new Metro style logo for Windows 8

Microsoft has officially confirmed the new Metro style logo for Windows 8 today. We saw images of the logo leak earlier this week, but the company unveiled it officially today stating that the logo is a Window rather than the traditional flag found in earlier versions of Windows. "We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic," says Microsoft's Sam Moreau.
The logo uses flat colors and clean lines and shapes to convey the message of Metro and will change color based on the core theme color used in Windows 8. "When you change your color, the logo changes to reflect you," explained Moreau. Microsoft will use the logo in the new charms bar for Windows 8, adopting the chosen theme accent color.
What do you think about the new logo?

We learned NOT to do what Microsoft has done here in 9th grade art... Guess MS's artist missed that class. Or grade, as how metro looks like it was made with crayons.

I can make that above picture with its text and logo in 5 min. or maybe 2.
This one looks much much better:

you mean something like this?
Why can't they stick with the same flag and just make the colours flat?
I think like what has been said in this thread, the logo takes on a transparent form when it comes to colors (it changes color according to the Accent color you choose in Metro). Here is the logo in motion:
looks OK-ay in motion, but most of the time, we see the logo static, no?
here is the post by the design studio that made the logo for Microsoft.
There seems to be a slight difference between the logo they posted and the one by Microsoft:
Long Zheng from istartedsomething thinks that the logo may already be having scaling issues.
Now I wonder what will happen to Windows Phone's logo.
EDIT: After some reading around, I learnt that the logo is slanted the other way round because of 2 reasons:
1) It looks better on the Charms bar in Windows 8 the other way around
2) The logo is a snapshot of how apps open in W8. I took the liberty of taking a screenshot for you guys to see what i'm talking about:

That's what I took from this thread.
Windows 8 right now is a fine OS, essentially Windows 7 with some heavy tweaking, not a big deal at all, why this logo has so many people in a frenzy is beyond me.

It looks like a... window! :|
But yeah Windows 8 UI overall is ugly. It's alright though... we'll get some customization packs and themes to change that. All I care about is that the OS runs smoothly and is faster than Windows 7 (i.e an improvement, not a step backwards in performance like Vista).

Looks 100% like a kid's homework.
Has Microsoft fired all their skilled designers?
Yeah, there is no quality in their visual stuff anymore. Just some colors here and there, nothing important to go into detail with. And yeah, our customers are getting old so.. they probably dont see small things anymore so we brought some huge squares for them to look at instead, maybe there is something they will recognize somewhere on there.

Makes total sense, though. It is, completely , just a way to dull our other senses toward their intentions, which is gathering data, in order to use it before google finds out that info and translates that into ad money. F'n BS, mainards. CONSTANTLY making the end user suffer for THEIR benefit, AFTER purchasing their product. EXACT same reason that there is NO search box n new IE's.
Disgusting cause that is ALL Metro is. A way to keep tabs, gather information, and SHAPE your decisions, in a direction that leads you to bing
EDIT----- HOWEVER, I launched 8 last night and focused on the OS boot selection screen. And it looked cool, really cool. They are doing something, maybe it is vector, not sure. But it is the same format as the logo image, above, however, looks somewhat 3d. The image above doesn't do it justice, at all. On a, completely, unrelated note, Metro still blows.
