This is the new Windows 8 Beta (Consumer Preview) logo according to CNBeta. The screenshot was taken from a recently dropped Windows 8 build.

The Chinese reports that Microsoft also has added a new, but familiar logo to the boot screen of a recent Windows 8 build.

If you really wanna know what started it all, look no further than King County Metro signage. This is what inspired Microsoft's development team.

I mean, you all remember why Microsoft called their OS "Windows" 20 years ago, right? But with the Metro UI, it has nothing to do with windows at all, except the grid on the Start screen, which really looks like the two windows of that painted house.

okay, you know what? this is getting tiring. You hate the start screen. We get it already. Now stop saying the same thing in every single thread about Windows 8.

"Windows" implies multitasking, something metro sucks at. So "Screens" would be a better name.

I won't be surprised if the "Windows" name dies in the future. It's a tainted brand anyway.

It is now officially hip to be square.

Actually, I think that logo looks pretty apt for the new OS. The problem is how crappy that is going to look on our hardware:

Posted Image

that picture is just a mockup (read: photoshop) of how the logo would look like on a device. But yeah, it looks weird.
