During last month’s CES, Microsoft promised that copies of Windows 8 Consumer Preview will be available this February and it seems that Microsoft OEM partners were now testing a Beta Candidate build. Today, PCbeta released some exclusive photos of Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

The build that OEMs were testing was 8220.0.winmain_win8beta.120127-1925. According to Canouna, they (OEMs) were given two weeks to test the build.

Yep. The start button has gone. Its now in auto-hidden position. It becomes visible as soon as you move your cursor to left-bottom corner.

It's not gone per se, but it's hidden by default. It'll reappear when you move the mouse to the lower corner.

With touchscreen, you still have the "charm" bar, negating a use for the Start button.

no, that only happens when you have Windows 8 running on a non-touchscreen device. On touchscreen devices, the start button/ charms menu will still be accessed from swiping in from the side.

We'll see who is right. My predictions usaully clear and truthful, because they are based on psychology.

Usually, these "predictions" are based off nothing more than emotion, specifically fear. People said Vista would fail because Microsoft cleaned up Explorer, and added UAC (It "failed" for different reasons though), people said Windows 7 would fail once the "superbar" was introduced and the "classic" Start Menu was killed off. Also, A LOT of people were hoping for Windows XPr2 for some reason. Now we're to believe Windows 8 will fail just because the Start Menu is now a Start Screen?

I agree with you Frylock. I also believe in trying it out before I decide I don't like it!

Thanks. Personally, I can't wait to try it. I'm really looking forward to installing it to my laptop, and taking it to school with me.
