Having a problem with any icons showing, I just get the aero background. When I close the launcher the icons show up just as the launcher goes. Can't get the settings pane either, rolled back to a previous version. :(

Still getting the same problem with the latest build, the icons show up on the first run after computer starts, any subsequent run of the launcher after that shows only a glass aero pane across the whole screen, when I tap the synaptic 3 finger shortcut the launcher fades away quickly and the icons show up for a millisecond before the whole launcher disappears..

Here's my Settings.xml...

http://dl.dropbox.co...33/settings.xml

I fixed it by changing to full aero with no fadetime for reveal and hide, also just to note that the aero amount slider doesn't seem to do anything, it won't move.

I'm not able to reproduce this behavior, can you give me any more info?

Does this happen on your laptop and desktop?
The background blur slider only works when you use a background picture instead of aero.

I've only seen it happen on the laptop :)

More info, My laptop is Dell L501X, it's got Nvidia Optimus (which is onboard Intel GFX and a faster Nvidia GFX card for more intensive applications).

I had just installed windows and all up-to-date drivers. Installed WinLaunch, used the middle background setting, in the window that pops up, as it's supposed to be closest to Lion.

Chose Synaptic activation and disabled all other activation options, changed the size options and the fade speeds for the launcher.

Then I started dragging my applications on to the launcher, all works fine until I hide the launcher and then bring it back again.

I changed the background to full Aero and changed both fade speeds to instant and it was fixed.

This is what makes me think it's the third (newer) background option that causes it, cos I never had this problem before the new background options.

Hope this helps and keep up the great work!! :)

P.S. Any idea when you'll be adding an installer? I think that's what the app is missing most now.

it will be very great thing if you will add a facility to minimise the windows directly in to your winlaunch apps instead taskbar :) please consider about it because i like this facility in rocketdock as well as objectdock thanks btwn you r doing great jop :)

Practically perfect in every way. Lot to pat yourself on the back with, here. Couple things, though:

1. shortcuts dragged into winlaunch point to the shortcut they were dragged from (ie., you drag out of your start menu into winlaunch). Then if you delete the initial shortcut, the shortcutin winlaunch no longer works. Shortcut should always point to original target only. That's a feature in nexus windock, objectdock, rocketdock, too, I think.

2. Three finger touch to activate: Beautiful. Responsive. Makes me pretend I don't even HAVE a taskbar! But winlaunch should active when you lift your fingers OFF the touchpad (a buttonClickUp event). Then you could also use the touchpad for 3-finger flick (swipe) on web pages (used on my lenovo), or mac-style 3-finger push-up to reveal mission control, 3-finger push-down for something else, and 3-finger swipe left/right for still more. Right now, 3-finger activation kills all 3-finger options because it actives on fingers touching the touchpad (buttonClickDown event).

3. Personal preference, I think the winLaunch window should cover the entire screen, and not stop at the toolbar or above a dock. Just cover entire screen. Startmenu appears higher than winlaunch (good for pulling shortcuts when you fix what they point to), but taskbar not needed, just close winlaunch to access.

4. Shortcuts: when I pull a shortcut with a custom icon out of my taskbar into winlaunch, it carries the custom icon, including if I've customised the icon that shows up in the running apps part of taskbar. But when I pull a shortcut from the desktop or explorer, even if it has a custom icon just like in taskbar (and custom running apps icon), it displays the default icon in the running apps taskbar. Just little annoyances that need coding, but wanted to mention it.

5. Nice to have: let a user create a shortcut for taskbar that opens winlaunch to a specific page. So if I click a control panel icon, and say on page 3 of winLaunch I have a bunch of control panel shortcuts, my mouseclick takes me directly to that page, instead of whichever page was displayed last and forcing me to scroll to the page I want. Just a thought.

6. This is a ground-breaking app, in my opinion. Single-handedly killing taskbar (except for showing running apps, systray, clock, that sort of thing). But now, who needs a taskbar or desktop full of icons? Stacks are nice, but now I'm swayed to your app over stacks. winLaunch is FAST, stacks SLOW, and nobody keeping up development. How come taskbar just never became what the dock did on mac? M$ lazy. Same ugly thing in windows 8.

Great work. Kudos. Superlative city. Regards.

Hi,

Love the app. I agree with everyone that this is a mind-blowingly cool app. However...

I am having two bugs:

First: Results in Crash.
When I try to combine icons into a folder by dragging one on top of the other--the app crashes and has to be shutdown by Windows.
Here are the repro steps and the error message:

Environment:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. (Patched to date)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
8gb memory
DirectX 11
Multimonitor setup
Defaults for everything else.

Repro Steps:
1 Start App Manually (or automatically doesn't matter)
2 Drag 4 randomly chosen application shortcuts into the interface screen.
3 attempt to drag one icon onto another.
4 Instant crash.

Important:
I have run the 64bit and 32bit versions--no change.
I went in and changed the compatibility settings for the app.
Run as Administrator--no change
Run as compatibility mode for Windows 7--no change
Run both at the same time--no change
I have run the app all alone with no other apps turned on or started and verified this by checking for running processes, etc.--No change.

Second bug:
My middle button click does not work for activation.
I am using a wireless Microsoft 6000 mouse.

Lastly:
I don't know if it is important--but under my icons all I have is a black box. My background or blurring does not show under and around the icons themselves.

Thanks again for a wonderful program. I will continue to use this without the folder functions because it is so good. I hope you can address this soon, and I have given you enough information. If you need more--let me know.

thanks,

Obfuscatori

Hey everyone,

feels kinda weird to bump this thread after almost 3 years :)

i've recently stumbled upon the WinLaunch directory in my projects folder again

and decided to finally fix some of the age old problems like the slow startup and lag,

the support for Windows 8(.1), context menus, etc.

In case anyone is still interested you can find the latest version here: http://WinLaunch.org

Kind regards

C0rrupted

Hiya C0rrupted, glad to see you're still working on the project after all this time.

Keep up the good work. This application has a special place in all of our hearts, I think. :)

*highfive*
