The Windows 8 login screen in the latest 8160.0.winmain.111122-1913 build now contains a dark blue coloring, compared to the green color scheme of the Windows Developer Preview. Microsoft appears to be transitioning to a darker color scheme (default theme) with its latest Windows 8 builds.

Agree. Metro is beautiful, it even makes Windows Aero look old.

Windows Classic on the other hand.. that is some heavy stuff. Classic makes you feel like a pro, while Metro just looks like you are a child liking looking at those different colors like if you havent seen them before.
Sure, simple stuff might be better then more developed stuff some times but a Metro UI with minimalistic effects and colors shifting and stuff would be much greater.
The plain colors and just a huge white text on top makes it all disorienting and confusing in which is what of all the interface, saying this much from the Windows Phone demo i tried out, applies some on Windows 8 too.

You guys cant be serious when you just watch these loginscreens and see different plain color screenshots and two with some other stuff on the backgrounds and think the last one is "Wow" you love it?

I dont understand

Metro is not productive at all :(

Microsoft is just pushing me away from Windows it looks like...and yes, I'll go to a Mac if that happens. Never thought I'd even consider that.

This thought has occurred to me too many times since Win 8 became such failure. Mac when Win 7 stops being supported and they stay with metro in future Windows. Because linux cant play games that good as mac can. And mac is the best alt. After windows.

Guys, Metro is a boon to computers!

seriously, do you guys actually like all those icons littered all over on your desktops? or how bout those annoying tiny icons on the system tray?

Metro gets rid of everything - I mean everything, all the clutter and other unnecessary stuff, and puts what matters to you front and center. Computers need to change, and this is absolutely the right direction as we head into the future.

Metro UI with minimalistic effects and colors shifting and stuff would be much greater.
The plain colors and just a huge white text on top makes it all disorienting and confusing in which is what of all the interface, saying this much from the Windows Phone demo i tried out, applies some on Windows 8 too.

Metro already has minimalistic effects. Tried the developer preview?

People are just resistant to change...people are just too used to seeing fake 3D user interfaces with fake 3D shadows under icons and such, so people find the flatness of Metro disorientating.

That mindset, I think, will change eventually. I find Metro extremely clear - it is like reading a Magazine. Look at Metro from a completely objective point of view (and that means not having your judgement clouded by what we see today), and you'll understand what Metro really is about. For starters - Metro is not about solid colors at all.

Metro is just so "consolified" or "tabletified" which means the use of keyboard or mouse is kind of useless for the Desktop computers. Metro UI is much like a huge in-game menu. You just go through lots of menus to set up stuff in the control panel and such, which means you dont really need the mouse, just use your up and down keys on keyboard to go through them, you just have text, no visual stuff which makes it harder to see what the settings are all about (also when there is just solid or no nothing that shows that they are related, like nothing that binds them togheter as you know in WINDOWS, you know actual Windows and not fullcreen pages when there was some rectangular lines separating stuff from other stuff.

No, i dont see the point of seeing Metro from an another point of view because my thought about it is enough making me hate it too much and no i am not really afraid of changes, i did not really complain about the changes happened in Vista or 7. Those were small and i adjusted to them quickly. But remaking the purpose of the whole OS desktop to something that is unusable is something i really cant adjust to, as i have grown up with how the OS's desktop works today. Windows 8 for tablets, that im okay with Metro but i would still not buy a Windows 8 tablet i dont like its UI at all. But for PC Windows 8, im against all over.

You know, the same is for Xbox 360. I liked the first UI "Blades" i think it was called. And it was epic. When they switched, i thought it would be great with some change but when i updated to it and explored it, i got disappointed and wanted to switch back because Blades UI was simple like Metro UI but with really nice background and UI that had images and not solid colors like how Metro has. And now when they have updated to Metro style on Xbox 360, i get reminded of Blades everytime i power up 360. But then again i also get disappointed because its kind of the same idea because the Blade thinking is behind that Metro but the visuals is ugly and different. Why not just go back to Blades and just add the new necessary stuff instead? Blades just... were perfect and worked. No, now today you just make everything casual to fit everyone, it should not be too pro or hardcore, it should be colorful so even small kids that are still learning what a square is can point out what he wants.

Time will tell if it will be a success. The DP is targeted at tablets so things could still change for the desktop.

At the moment I would not consider it as my next desktop OS. Why should I buy powerful desktop and than run an OS that looks like dos? I like simple and minimal but this looks like its targeted at 3 year olds.

In windows 8 I would still mainly use the desktop and windows, so the new start menu is only a big ugly distraction. Only another widget layer on top of windows 7 with a totally different UI.

The way MS implements metro looks like a step back to me, so "Windows 7 TABLET SERVICE PACK" would be the right name for me.

There are ways to make this a winner but I doubt MS will pull it off anytime soon.
Or perhaps I am just to old for the kid stuff? :)

Okay so some people like Metro. MS still needs to understand the value of giving the choice to the user. Just like Preath said about Blades UI, why wasn't there an option to switch UIs after MS introduced the new Cards UI (or whatever it was called).

I'm all for minimalistic. Heck, I love Gnome 3 to pieces...the problem is that the Start Screen is anything but minimalistic, it is obtrusive, it changes how I used to do things, I can no longer read a guide and type in the command in the start menu at the same time...I just HAVE to switch back to read the guide now. Obtrusive, obtrusive, obtrusive. That's the one thing I am certainly not liking about WP 8 DP.

Besides that...is there anyone else who tries to move the mouse over the Time/Date overlay which is shown when you hover over the start button in the Desktop? >_<

We are all just being clouded by our existing judgement(s).

so what if it's 'consolified'? Are consoles easier to use and navigate around as compared to our PC's? The answer is...yes. Do we find our TV's and Tablets easier and more pleasant to use than our PC's? The answer is yes, and yes!

Why can't PC's be like our TV's and Tablets? Why do our PC's have to be different?

why not...let our PC's be our TVs and Tablets?

and that is absolutely the direction we should be heading to. Menus on our PCs are going to be like on our TV's and Tablets - it's a consistent future, this is how technology should have been working like right from the start. We see in the movies, and it's happening now.

No, no, no and no! PCs should stay how they are because they are fine that way. If you dont like Pcs why not just get rid of it and get your damn tavlet or TV? The thing is if you want your Pcs to be your"TV" then you can build your HTPC. For media center use.

is it a sin for mouse, controllers, remotes, and touch to use the same interface?

Like I said, people are just resistant to change because people think what we have now is perfect.

There is a reason why your mum doesn't know how to install IE9 on her own. Or why majority of the browser marketshare belongs to IE, for that matter.

Yes, a huge sin.

It requires more energy to select something in the same interface with a mouse than with a controller.
