Hi Guys,

I am looking for any kind of tips, tricks or software which will help me to retrieve my free space of the hard drive. Just a while ago i have installed a program which is called HP Advisor. before the installation my hard drive space was 13.10gb. after installation it came down to 12.6gb. whatever, as the program seems not to be useful for me i have uninstalled it and seen that hard drive space is 12.7gb.

I have used REVO uninstaller to uninstall the program, it cleaned up all the left over from the application as well. after that i used CCLEANER, but nothing helped me to get my free space back. so i guess there r plenty of spaces which could be retrieval from my hard drive. please help me guys.

i would check for hidden files in %appdata%

Yep, try to check under %appdata% which you can reach by typing into startmenu search or run window. Also check under ProgramData which is a hidden folder under C:\

I appreciate for your reply guys. but the thing is all of these have been done by several software including CCCLEANER, WINDOWS VISTA MANAGER, REVO CLEANER and my hidden files have been unhidden during this activities. tell me something real which will really help me to sweep up the hard drive.

What is the total size of your primary disk and what operating system are you running?
I assume that you cleaned out your temporary internet files.
What are you using for antivirus?
Apps, games, music and movies eat up space quickly, too.

Obviously as i am in vista forum my operating system is vista ultimate. my windows partition is 80gb. i know applications eats up spaces..but i installed an application which ate up like 600mb minute later i have uninstalled it and lost almost 300mb even though i have cleaned all left over from this application, and all other garbage.

80GB should be plenty of room for an OS partition.
A clean install of Vista wouldn't take more space than you have free on that partition.
If all that you have free is 12GB, you must have a lot of stuff on that partition with it.
By the way, using the word "partition" usually means to me that you have more storage than your OS partition.
Do you have another partition on that machine?
If you do, are you aware that you don't always need to install apps on your OS partition?
Many applications give you the option of choosing where to install them.

how about windows update backup files? have u cleared that too?
or SP1 SP2 update will make a backup of updated files...

How about restore points?
System restore takes a snapshot of your OS partition to enable you to restore your OS from a fatal crash.
The more restore points that you have, the more disk space is used.
You can delete old restore points and set your OS to back them up less often.

guys...restore point is disabled. i know the basic stuffs. what i want is to recover my space which was taken during a software installation as that particular soft has been uninstalled as well.I did clean up everything...and my restore point has been disabled as well.
