As promised, Mozilla has released Firefox 4.0 on time to its official download page. Firefox puts users in control of their Web experience, providing a streamlined user interface, fun new features, a boost in speed and support for modern Web technologies. Firefox 4 is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux in more than 80 languages.

Firefox 4.0 final version is now available for download on Mozilla's FTP servers. The Firefox website has yet to be updated but it will probably be announced officially either later today or tomorrow, March 22nd, as initially planned.

Firefox 4.0 went through no less than 12 Beta development milestones, and two Release Candidate Builds, the last of which just this past weekend.

What's new?

Firefox 4.0 has a new user interface, new ways to organize tabs, a revamped add-on manager, support for HTML5 video standards, multitouch support on Windows 7 and a range of performance and security enhancements. Firefox 4.0 also delivers a massive improvement in terms of performance, with the usual focus on JavaScript.

Firefox 4.0 for Windows
Firefox 4.0 for Linux

Can't wait :)

I'll use it when it's available in the Ubuntu Update Manager.

Finally a great default browser to use :)

Excellent Job, Mozilla!!

Just as I thought it would be... It's nice, but it's still very rough around the edges on Windows 7, as compared with IE9 or Chrome. C'mon Mozilla. You can do much better.

I really think it's time for Mozilla to move on and re-do the browser with Windows 7 and 8 front and center in the design process. Look what it did for IE9. Microsoft has a bang up browser there, and one that has me going back to IE.
I think Windows XP users will be fine with Firefox 4, but Windows XP is dead, and I don't think it is fair to continue developing web browsers with XP users front and center in the design process. It's time to cut out the legacy, XP era crap and move forward.
Otherwsie, I have a feeling Mozilla will be left behind too, trying to cater to a dead market.

I know quite a few Mac users on Neowin are asking for a MacOS specific Firefox version too.

It moves I don't know how to explain it but it does.

It doesn't move in Private browsing so I'm thinking it is an addon bug?

I get what this guy means, and yes, it moves for me too. It's been like that ever since they implemented panorama in the betas. I don't mind it though.

Firefox used to be the best browser, before the release of IE9. :P

I like all current browsers. All are technical competent. I see no real big differences between them.

Personal preference for look and feel will determine which one you use.

My personal "hate" list:
- closing the last tab closes the browser (most, except Opera)
- browser does not remember last opened tabs (IE9)

:)

Seriously, IE9 sucks royal balls. The browser is fast yea, but that's it. It doesn't have many of the lastest technologies that developers were looking forward to. I have a new site that uses the latest CSS3 and HTML5 properties and IE9 will fail horribly to show it right.

I also have a nice get Firefox 4 button on the footer of every page as well.

Opera 11.10 will be out soon enough and it will support more than IE9. I will respect IE9 more when I can do what I do already with Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and even Opera. Until then, it will always be a sh*ty browser to me.

Microsoft always just does enough to keep the uneducated market share ok, but they have no idea what hell developers go through to make websites work for that crappy browser called Internet Explorer.

The other thing that's hilarious is that many are saying how great it is when the damn browser doesn't even match or beat the technologies of Firefox 3.6.

That's one thing I did notice that Chrome is BEAST in OSX. You can get Safari as good with a work around -> http://www.winmatrix...-for-osx-users/

Patiently awaiting the release today :D

Mozilla already removed the link to the RC on the Firefox home page.

I wasn't expecting Mozilla to beat chrome when it updated to the final, but i was wrong! It now opens just as fast if not slightly slower than Google Chrome does, and that's with at least 20 add-ons! It also uses about 6% less memory. In Google chrome some websites do not display properly (in particular my anime sites) the format will break for some reason and some borders or buttons will move and overlap, its annoying. However Firefox never does this. Its got a couple good themes and i can use my persona's on any theme i want. How can Google chrome compete for my love now? XD Its also generally faster and snappier. Please do explain how chrome or even opera still has favor over Mozilla and its new browser because i don't see it :o
