On my mum's laptop, checking My Computer shows two harddrives just over 30gb each. I checked some harddrive utility build into Vista for her and that shows those two harddrives as partitions and another one that's about 70gb that can't be accessed. How does she get them all merged so she can use all that space?

Free for personal usage. Makes it easy to manage partitions.
There is no single, simple way to merge two different partitions. Your going to have to back up everything from the second partition to a folder in drive C:\ , then use the software of your choice to delete the second partition, then extend / resize the primary C:\ partition using the new freespace from the deleted partition.
