After "GlassOwnership" I re-view my opinion about ownership. I guess I should not let people take the ownership on folders and whole directory trees. It can kill OS, really. If you take ownership on WinSxS, Windows will die.

I made new utlity. Its TakeOwnershipEx. Features:

1. Take Onwership on file or multiple files
2. You can restore default rights and owner on files.

When you execute "Take ownership" command, applications reads file's NTFS permission and backup them. Then it set local "Administrators" group as owner and give them full access. "Restore ownership" command restores rights from backup.

Russian and English languages avaliable. Supports Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Hi
Version 1.1 now available

Now you can take ownership on folders too. Sure, you can restore ownership and access rights back.
I have missed that possibility some days ago and now i have implemented it.

This application is brilliant, I will be able to save so much time when setting up customers computers that use Intel graphics, they never install with the correct permissions and ask to be run every time you boot!

Good news for TakeOwnershipEx users.
TakeOwnershipEx 1.2

Number of bugs in installer was reported and fixed in this release.
Also the major thing is Context menu integration. TakeOwnershipEx now has "clever" context menu item which can detect what he must do - to provide full access or restore permissions and owner of file. See video above.

I want to remind you that TakeOwnershipEx stores the history of files/folders you have been owned. There you can always set access rights back to the original state. Note that it restores access right as well as owner. I.e. if previous owner was TrustedInstaller, it will be properly restored too. This is a most important benefit of TakeOwnershipEx.

Now I have special version for Windows 8 compiled with .net framework 4.5.
Enjoy.
