Hello,

I am really not happy with the window media player 12. I did some research and found the way to downgrade it back from 12 to 11.

The steps are...

1. Run services.msc
Stop the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service.

2. Take ownership of these files

=> All files in "Program Files\Windows Media Player\" folder
=> All files starting with "wmp" in System32 folder
=> wmploc.dll.mui in "Sytem32\en-us\" folder

3. Run the installer.

4. Before u reboot, open regedit and delete this key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Setup\Installed Versions"

5. Reboot

6. If u face any problems post it on the Winmatrix thread.

I followed all these steps but I got an error message (see attachment), can anyone here spend few minutes to let me know why or help me to solve this problem?

Again, window media player 12 is a frustrating player compare to 11.

Thanks in advance

P

I'm not having problems at all with WMP12. It's actually better than 11 IMO. So, what are your problems then?

I want to be able to do 'save as'. Sometimes I want to save the stream file from internet and I can listen to it on my way to work. But WMP 12 disable the save as function. All I can get is the asx file..

So I was trying to downgrade the WMP 12 back to WMP11 and think the problem will be solved...but I hit the error message (screenshot on my first post)..anyone has an idea what that error is? Thx.

I absolutely hate the fact that they removed the Advanced Tag Editor from WMP12. It was really useful in WMP11 !

I also find it funny how Microsoft pwned WMP12 themselves with Zune software. The Zune software absolutely blows everything I use out of the water.

I also have issues with WMP12, biggest issue being it will not play half the stuff that WMP11 played without problems. Loss of sound and loss of colour being the biggest issues. I have installed my normal codec pack, but WMP12 still refuses to play a lot of stuff.

So i have gone down the route listed earlier and gone back to WMP11, the install went without problems, and WMP11 now happily plays all my media again. But i have found one annoying problem, the equaliser settings have no affect at all to the sound. Very annoying to say the least. Anyone here ever encountered this problem before? I can move all the sliders ok, it's not like they are greyed out, they just have no affect at all.

I am hoping someone can point me to an easy fix for the problem. At the moment im running a dual boot XP/7 system - i am very reluctant to say good bye to XP until i can get Win 7 behaving how i want it to behave, rather than how Microsoft wants it to behave! ;)

Great forum by the way people, great to find so much knowledge in one place!

I am seeing the same error as the OP

Since the error relates to the c:\program files (x86) directory, I wonder if the instructions should have included a take ownership step for files in that directory as well?
