This is what will happen if you decline the "upgrade"

  • It will be impossible to play PS3 games online.
  • It will be impossible to play new PS3 games.
  • It will be impossible to watch new Blu-ray videos.

If the PS3 is anything like the Wii, then the new games will just run under an IOS (input/output system) with a higher version number. I'm sure Geohot can hack a way to update the IOS only.

Source: My Wii, which can play New Super Mario Bros. Wii on System Menu 4.1U (not the new 4.2, the old 4.1)

Yes thats basically like the psp CFW, they preserved the 1.50 kernel. They still cant get rid of it, as much as they want to drop it.

:D thank you. Yeah, i bought the original PS3, which are being sold out everywhere and i didnt want the slim one, which were cheaper but i still wanted the original one so i bought that for more money but i still were satisfied.. and Linux were one reason why i bought PS3 too but.. it doesnt do so much if that feature is removed but it is still a feature of the base product.

And what should the users do that use Linux and update their PS3 and notice they cant reach their files on the Linux parition anymore?
