I'm more of a reader. Is replying so important?
I only reply when I really have to say something.
I don't like to post f.e. Yeah, I like it. Cool. Ugly. +1

Offcourse that's just me :)

Automatic RSS posting is a bad idea IMO.

How so?

Actually, that was the case on the website I mentioned- and they raised it to 30. The website is a lot better now, since the higher post limit encourages users to continue being an active part of the community.

In any case, is that a "certain beta site" ?
We got a lot of n00bs recently who made repetitive topics. Also, loads of non-want-to-get-ftp-details spam for DVD rippers. Ugh.

Unless you're talking about a private beta of a mod for Fallout 3 I've been working on for the past year or so, then probably not. It's a Fallout 3 modding community ;) .

I think customization is not so popular anymore as it was a few years ago. This cannot be remedied.

Also there is more competition from other forums. Dunno what can make WM more attractive in comparison to the other sites. Artificial boosting of posts is no solution imho > quality before quantity.

Windows Vista and 7 seem to be harder to skin than XP.
Either that, or people are not as kyped about making skins anymore.

GIving away free stuff doesnt work, you get a few people join in and nothing else

Locking the forum down to guests is the only way to get more members but the owners wont do it

A RSS feed would be a professional article so i'm not sure how it would be bad quality tbh.

I think we need more people to visit the actual forums than just skim through the latest threads on the front page.

For that purpose, I propose there be a similar box (like one on the front page) on the forum page.
Then I can put the forum on my speed dial and after looking through the latest posts, I would look through all the sections or some of them. I believe that will make more people visit more of the forum and thus increase chances of more new users who will be active.

Or you could just add a 'Connect with Facebook' button. Letting people sign in with their FB accounts, and automatically sharing new threads they post on their walls. Attracting more users to the site?

Just an Idea.
