So one of the new "big" things for the Gimp will be Single Window Mode, and that should make a LOT of photo shoppers happy.
Well, i downloaded the Ubuntu binary and installed it, and got to try out 2.7.1. it is kind of nice, but if you want to save in a format that is not the gimp's native .XCF, you have to go through Export, and some times the Close command wont register on the window/tab that your on, but then of course, this IS a beta.
cant wait for the real thing!
Oh, and in case you want to play too, here is a page that tells you not only in Ubuntu how to get your hands on it, but also has a Windows binary too!
Model is my son, Xander.
How to Install in Ubuntu:

If you recieve this error (and I did...) then do this
Install GEGL:
sudo apt-get install libgegl-0.0-0
Int he main Gimp window, go to the bottom of the "Window" menu, and there should be a check box that says "Single Window Mode". Click it and be amazed.
And there you go!
How to install in Windows!
