I am about to get some cash, and I think it is about time that I build my own computer. There is only one problem, I am not up to date on the latest stuff. I want you guys to help me on this build. I need to keep it somewhere around $1,500. I need a Nvidia graphics card. I want to try out nVidia's 3D Vision, besides that I have no idea. Go crazy.
Edit: Let's change that budget to $2,000.

Well, assuming you are american, try this:
$1,525 Intel i5 (LGA1156) "Gaming Config"
CPU: Intel Core i5 750 $239
Mobo: Gigabyte P55-UD3 $139
RAM: G.Skill-Ripjaws 4GB DDR3-1333 $109
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB $95
GPU: Powercolor 1GB ATI Radeon HD5870 $535
Case: Lian Li Lancool PC-K60 $125
PSU: Seasonic M12 500W $119
ODD: Sony-NEC Optiarc AD-7240S $48
CPU HSF: Noctua NH-U12P w/ LGA1156 bracket $84
Total: $1,526 AUD (Which is $1,376.77 U.S. dollars)
There is no monitor/keyboard/mouse - so you can either use one that you already have, or you can spend an extra $150 on whatever you need.
EDIT: Oh, and the reason why there is a 5870 instead, is because it's currently the most kick-ass GPU there is. There are some 2GB GTX 285's out there, but 5870 support DX11

Yes, I am American. I was wanting to get an nVidia card and eventually double up for some SLI.

Well, the only difference is the price and physX which isn't that big of a deal. If you want some Sli cards, you can go for 2x GTX 285's which will cost ~$900-$1200 and then a better PSU (700W+), which would also add some cash.
AFAIK, the 5870 is like a single GPU version of the nVidia GTX 295 (Dual-GPU) with DX11 support. So I don't know why you wouldn't want to give it a go.

nVidia's 3D Vision require a nVidia card. I might as well put a little more cash into the machine. I guess we could push the budget up to about $2000. Haha.

Don't you need like a 100Hz Monitor aswell?...It might cost more than $2000, and I'm sure that 3D would be nice...but it'll ruin your eyes faster.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you're going to compute the price for American parts, you should use American sites like Newegg. Austrialian prices when converted to USD are generally higher than the prices in the US.
I went to newegg and recalculated all the prices of the parts, and came up to a price of $1188.90.
Also, unless he plans to overclock, in my opinion, he won't benefit from a non-stock HSF.
dlee2011, do you actually plan on using Nvidia's 3D Vision?

Or he can build a computer himself and get better hardware at the same, or lower, price.

I have taken the nvidia 3D into account, and yes, I do plan on using it. It seems like it would be a cool thing to have. I do not want an Alienware. Alienware blows imo haha.

That's what I have put together so far. Let me know if everything is compatible/good. Help me fill the gaps.
If you're going to get a third-party heatsink (which I would highly recommend) I would recommend this one, or even this one if it'll fit in your case. As for a case, I have the Raidmax Aztec case, and I love it. Couldn't find it on Newegg, though, and it might be a bit too flashy for some people. As for a PSU, I have the Corsair CMPSU-750TX. I (respectfully) disagree with Sygzy, I'd get at least 6GB of DDR3 RAM, depending on what all you'll be doing.

Gives people a rough price - TBH, I could care less about newegg lol.

I had a second thought and decided I would rather have DX11 than 3D. So I think I want to get SAPPHIRE 100281SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16. Would I need to replace the motherboard as well?
