Having published a release candidate of its operating system Ubuntu 9.10 last Friday, the company Canonical is making available the final version of its open source system - also known as the Karmic Koala. Based on the Linux kernel version 2.6.31, this new version incorporates the GNOME desktop environment 2.28.
Adding and removing programs are now done via the Software Center. Note also the implementation of Upstart, coded by the developer Scott James Remnant. This technology allows an open source faster boot the machine. Versions 2.28 of the GNOME includes a number of changes. Thus Empathy replace Pidgin as instant messaging software by default. Note that the file reader Evince has a new layer of security against PDF documents or images potentially dangerous.
In addition to filesystem ext4, which optimizes the hard disk fragmentation, the bootloader, responsible for starting the system, GRUB 2 becomes the default. Mark Shuttleworth, CEO of Canonical, emphasized during a maintaining the importance of providing a reactive system including mobile computers. "We changed the kernel parameters to get a boot cleaner and faster. We also worked on the entry and exit sleep mode. It is very important for someone who wants to be mobile to use your laptop very quickly when it wants. . He added: "I think Karmic be very popular. . Find more information on this new version here.

I have installed 9.10 beta. Is there possible to just check for updates in it and then it updates to final version or do i have to download this one and reinstall ubuntu from scratch?

If you just install updates, it should automaticly update to tha latest version.
So you dont have to install from scratch, but i recommend you doing it anyway.

Try this:
sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade && sudo aptitude full-upgrade
or Alt+F2 then type this

Use a VirtualMachine if you're unsure. You do have a good amount of RAM in your notebook (I think 4GB right?), so setting 1GB to a VM isn't much of a big deal. I set 1GB to my VMs even though I only have 2GB.
